This lectin is blood group non-specific with sugar specificity for -mannose and to a lesser extent, -glucose residues. Agglutination is inhibited by mannose, glucose, fructose, methyl mannoside, maltose, melezitose and , '-trehalose. VEA is supplied without preservatives as a yellow lyophilized powder.
